Featured wedding The Rochford Hotel
The next wedding to feature on my blog is of Liz and Kev who tied the knot at The Rochford Hotel in Essex. It was a gorgeous day, and the colours Liz and Kev really popped in the reception room. I spent the whole day with them from the bridal preparations right through until the first dance and a little after. Below you can find a bit more detail about their day. I also sent them a Q&A to learn some more information about the decisions that they made for their special day.
How did you meet?
We got chatting online, however, we had known each other for 30 years since infant school. Kev’s cousin was my best friend at school!
What Wedding Venue/s did you choose and why?
We looked at a few, we didn’t want something too over the top or too far away that people would have to travel. We initially thought about getting married on the pier as we have both lived in the town all of our lives but there were lots of complications and I worried about the weather. Also because we have children we wanted somewhere that they could run around and be relaxed as it was their day too. As soon as we walked into the Rochford hotel we both loved it!! It was beautiful, calm, clean, had a safe contained garden and Jane the wedding organiser was lovely!
Did you have a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?
Not so much a theme but we had a few things we knew we wanted. I really wanted to have a bouncy castle and some garden games for the children, and Kev wanted a hog roast, so it always felt like a garden party. That influenced our flowers to be English summer garden flowers and the rest just fell into place.
What source did you use for wedding inspiration?
Pinterest was my best friend!! I had boards for everything and could show suppliers exactly what I wanted. It was great!
If you could turn back the clock before planning started, what advise would you give yourself?
Don’t stress, enjoy it! with good planning, it will all be fine in the end. I loved every minute of planning our day and didn’t stress or worry over anything really but I know people get really stressed out. We booked and planned it all in 5 months and it was all fine!
What was your favourite photograph from the day?
The one of us both leaving the ceremony room just after we married.
What song did you choose for your 1st dance?
Kodaline – The One
Was “Gary Derbridge Photography” the right photographer for you?
Without sounding cheesy, Gary was perfect for us. He was relaxed professional and more importantly made me feel relaxed. I’m not comfortable having my picture taken but we hardly knew he was there and the pictures are beautiful.
