Newland Hall wedding photographer in Chelmsford

Thank you for checking out my latest post, ‘Newland Hall wedding photographer in Chelmsford’. It features the wedding of Amy and Ryan. They had a twilight wedding at Newland Hall in Chelmsford. It’s one of the many venues that I am lucky enough to be the recommended supplier at.

Twilight weddings are becoming a really popular option in the last few years, with the ceremony taking place around 5 pm in the evening. The day then flows straight into a casual evening reception, often with a meal such as a BBQ.

Below you can find out a little bit more about their day and view some of the images I captured on the day. I hope that you enjoy the post, and if you have any questions please do get in touch!

How did you meet?

Our best friends Jack & Laura set us up, they had both been saying to us for a while that we should meet up, and then Jack gave Ryan my number. We texted for a few days before Ryan asked me out for a drink, I said ‘yes’ and the rest is history.

How did he propose?

We went to a lovely spa hotel in Kent called Rowhill Grange for our 3rd anniversary. We arrived around midday and checked into our room but our first treatment wasn’t until 3 pm, the weather was nice so we decided to go for a walk around the grounds.  We were walking through a pretty walled garden when Ryan got down on one knee,  I was so surprised and ended up crying and down on the floor with him.  It was a very private proposal which was just perfect for us.

What Wedding Venue did you choose and why?

We chose Newland Hall in Chelmsford after visiting around 4 weeks after we got engaged. We didn’t want a huge wedding so loved the intimacy of the venue and beautiful setting.  Unlike a lot of other weddings we had also decided we didn’t want to have a sit-down meal, we wanted something more informal and relaxed for our guests to enjoy, but still wanted a lovely venue. Newland Hall offered a ‘Twilight Wedding’ which was exactly what we were looking for.  Many of the other wedding venues we had spoken to weren’t interested unless you wanted a big sit-down meal for lots of guests, but Newland Hall was so accommodating from the start and the day was tailored to include everything we wanted.

Did you have a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?

One of the first things we purchased for the wedding was the bridesmaid dresses, and the colour scheme was really arranged around this,  the dresses were a dusky lavender colour so we decided to mix this in with silver/grey.  We incorporated French Lavender and Lilac Sweetpeas into the flowers,  and I made our Silver Manzanita Tree centre pieces which were dressed with Swarovski crystal, we then had lavender candle holders around the edge to tie it all in, this colour was also incorporated into the cake.

If you could turn back the clock before planning started, what advice would you give yourself?

Slow down!! When you first get engaged it’s really easy to get swept up in the excitement of it all and you end up in a wedding whirlwind and all sorts of crazy ideas start going through your head,  trust me…I know. It’s important that you sit down as a couple a decide on the sort of wedding that you both want,  remember that it’s your day so you can do it how, when and where you want,  don’t get caught up worrying about other peoples expectations, focus on what is most important to you!   Once you realise this the whole process becomes much easier.
Also, set a budget and stick to it! Weddings are expensive and it’s so easy for the costs to mount up without you even realising, sit down and decide on what parts or aspects of the day are most important to you both,  then set the budgets accordingly.

Was “Gary Derbridge Photography” the right photographer for you?

Absolutely!!  We felt relaxed and at ease with Gary from the first time we met him.  The pre-wedding shoot was a great idea as it really helped us to feel more comfortable in front of the camera on the big day, apart from the group shots for a lot of the time we didn’t even realise Gary was there.  We were over the moon with the photos he took,  they really help to tell the story of our day, and he captured lots of lovely moments we hadn’t even realised had taken place. Its been lovely sharing them with our family and friends, everyone has said how beautiful they are, and the guests also commented on how organised, passionate, friendly and helpful Gary was on the day itself.
