Wedding Photographer The Roslin

I photographed Sam and Mark’s Wedding at The Roslin Hotel on the 13th of March 2020 and little did I know we were soon to be entering into total lockdown here in the UK due to Coronavirus. It was the final wedding I have photographed this year so far. Since then I have had around 30 weddings postpone and cancel, so 2020 has been a truly strange year up until now! It’s been a tough year as a Wedding Photographer and for the whole wedding industry.

Anyway, back to happy memories. I spent the whole day with Sam and Mark, arriving in the morning to capture the preparations which also took part in The Roslin. I was with them all day right through to the first dance and a little after. They had said to me that they would LOVE a sunset shot, if possible, and they didn’t care if they had to get up during their wedding breakfast, they wanted one regardless!

So when they sat for their wedding breakfast, I popped down the road and got some fish and chips, true seafront style, and sat watching the sun slowly coming down. It kept getting better and better, and finally, it was time to grab them out for their photos! Check below for some of my absolute favourite shots from their day. I hope you love them as much as I do!

I also sent a Q&A to Sam and Mark which they very kindly agreed to complete! You can find out all about their special day, and some of the decisions that they made below!

How did the two of you meet?

Funnily enough, we met on tinder. After many wasted swipes right. We finally matched, and for anyone asking how on earth I managed to get such an amazingly beautiful girl, well it wasn’t my boyish charm or highly inappropriate sense of humour but down to the wonders of photoshop. Getting that 6 pack to fit in place took me ages..

How did he propose?

We went on a family cruise around the Caribbean islands for Marks’s big birthday and after many failed attempts (due to sea sickness and an island change) he decided to change his plan and ask me onBoard the Queen Mary 2 under the stars on the 1st of December

What Wedding Venue/s did you choose and why?

We Viewed a few wedding venues, but we always agreed wherever we picked we would spend our wedding night at The Roslin beach hotel, due to it being the place we had our first date. It was the most amazing wedding venue and would recommend it to anybody, they couldn’t have of done more for us.

Where did you buy your dress? Was it a choice between many?

I had my first appointment to try on dresses in April 2019 Big mistake! We had no idea what venue or theme we wanted. I fell in love with a dress but later on, we decided what size wedding we wanted and it just didn’t suit the venue. I found THE dress in August 2019 it was in a beautiful little shop in Hitchin Hertfordshire, called Morgan Davies Bridal. I was so happy with my choice! And it was completely different to my first choice.

What about the grooms suit? Did you already have a set style in mind?

I already had a certain idea in my mind, however, the exact idea I had of a tweed-ish style didn’t quite work. I have used Next before for loads of work suits so I know they have plenty to choose from and after a little fashion show, I managed to find the perfect one. A 3 piece faded blue with a blush pink flowered tie to match the bridesmaids. Perfect.

Did you have a theme or colour scheme for your wedding?

Yes, we wanted rose gold and blush pink with a little twist of being by the seaside.

What source did you use for wedding inspiration?

A lot of it was online from Pinterest and Instagram, but We also received a monthly delivery of the magazine ‘wedding ideas’ this was great for mood boards and website links!

If you could turn back the clock before planning started, what advise would you give yourself?

Ok, 3 things,
1. don’t stress! It’s the most amazing day of your life.
2. Think about what the two of you would want and not necessarily everyone else.
3. enjoy the little moments of the day, and have at least 10 minutes alone to take it all in.

What was your favourite photograph/s from the day?

Mark: Sparkler picture Samantha: Sunset picture

What song did you choose for your 1st dance and why?

We struggled a little bit with this but after a few long evenings listening to our favourites we chose, Nathan Sykes- over and over again. The words were really meaningful to us.

Was “Gary Derbridge Photography” the right photographer for you?

100% YES! After having seen how awesome his work is and how he talks to the guests at Marks sisters wedding the year before he was the obvious choice. Gary was great with our young nephews and niece and really got some incredible shots. He takes charge of the guests to get those photos he knows you really want and was super easy to reach on WhatsApp or email in the buildup to the wedding. And really enjoys apple crumble…
