A Beautiful Late-September Wedding at Apton Hall: Charlotte & Sam
As a wedding photographer, it’s always a privilege to capture a couple’s special day, but there’s something particularly exciting about working at a venue you know and love. Apton Hall in Essex is one of those places for me. I’m fortunate enough to be a recommended supplier there, so I’ve had the pleasure of photographing many weddings on its stunning grounds. Each wedding is unique, and Charlotte and Sam’s late-September celebration was no exception.

Morning Preparations: Two Stories, One Venue
One of the standout features of Apton Hall is that it provides everything a couple might need in one location, including beautiful spaces for both the bride and groom to prepare. This was ideal for Charlotte and Sam, as it allowed me to capture both of their morning preparations seamlessly.
Charlotte spent her morning getting ready in new preparation room before moving onto the dovecot, Apton Hall’s charming bridal suite. Surrounded by her bridesmaids and close family. The room was buzzing with excitement and laughter as hair and make-up artist worked their magic. Charlotte’s elegant dress hung in the corner, waiting for its moment to shine. I captured tender moments as her bridesmaid helped her into the gown, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when her dad saw her fully dressed for the first time.
Meanwhile, Sam was getting ready in the Groom’s Room, which is perfectly tailored for moments like these. With his groomsmen by his side, the atmosphere was light-hearted but filled with anticipation. I documented candid shots of Sam adjusting his tie and sharing a toast with his best men before heading off to meet Charlotte at the altar.

A Ceremony to Remember
The ceremony took place in Apton Hall’s historic stables, which exudes rustic charm with its exposed beams and warm lighting. It’s always a joy to see how couples personalise the space, and Charlotte and Sam’s tasteful floral arrangements added a romantic touch. The room was filled with their closest family and friends, all eager to witness the couple exchange their vows.
Charlotte walked down the aisle on her father’s arm, looking radiant and serene. Sam’s face lit up when he saw her, and the love and connection between them were palpable. The ceremony was heartfelt, with personal vows that had everyone smiling and tearing up in equal measure. Capturing these intimate moments is always one of my favourite parts of the day.

Exploring the Grounds: Portraits in Paradise
One of the many reasons I love working at Apton Hall is its breathtaking grounds, which provide endless opportunities for stunning photographs. After the ceremony, we made full use of the venue’s beautiful outdoor spaces, starting with the walled garden for formal family portraits. This secluded area is perfect for group shots, as it offers both privacy and a gorgeous backdrop of manicured greenery and vibrant flowers.
Charlotte and Sam’s families were a joy to work with, and we managed to capture a mix of traditional portraits and more relaxed, candid moments. The walled garden’s timeless charm added an extra layer of elegance to these images.
Once the family portraits were complete, I stole Charlotte and Sam away for some couple’s portraits. The late-September light was soft and golden, creating a dreamy atmosphere. We wandered through the grounds, stopping at picturesque spots. Charlotte and Sam were naturals in front of the camera, and their love for each other shone through in every frame.

Celebrating in Style
The reception was held in the main barn, which had been transformed into a warm and inviting space. Charlotte and Sam’s choice of décor complemented the venue’s natural beauty, with rustic wooden accents, and soft floral arrangements.
Speeches are always a highlight of the day, and Charlotte and Sam’s were no exception. From the father of the bride’s heartfelt words to the best man’s hilarious anecdotes, the room was filled with laughter and happy tears. Capturing the reactions of the couple and their guests during these moments is always so rewarding.
The evening celebrations began with Charlotte and Sam’s first dance. The couple swayed together under the warm glow of string lights as their guests gathered around, cheering them on. It was a magical moment that set the tone for the rest of the night.

Sparklers and a Rocking Dance Floor
As the evening progressed, we stepped outside for one final highlight: a sparkler exit. Guests lined up with sparklers in hand, creating a tunnel of light for Charlotte and Sam to walk through. These moments are always a joy to photograph, as they capture the excitement and energy of the day’s finale.
Back inside, the fantastic band had taken over the dance floor, and it didn’t take long for the party to kick into full swing. Guests of all ages joined in, dancing and celebrating late into the night. The atmosphere was electric, and it was clear that Charlotte and Sam’s wedding was one to remember.

Why Apton Hall Is a Dream Venue
Having worked at Apton Hall so often, I can’t help but sing its praises. It’s a venue that truly has it all, from its stunning grounds and versatile spaces to its attentive and professional team. Charlotte and Sam’s wedding was a perfect example of how this venue can provide the ideal backdrop for a couple’s big day.
As a photographer, I’m always grateful for venues that offer so much variety and beauty. Whether it’s the walled garden, the historic barn, or the expansive fields, every corner of Apton Hall is photogenic. But what truly makes it special is the warm and welcoming atmosphere, which ensures that every couple’s day is as memorable as it deserves to be.
Closing Thoughts
Charlotte and Sam’s wedding at Apton Hall was a joy to capture from start to finish. Their love for each other, combined with the stunning setting and fantastic energy of their family and friends, made it a day to remember. I feel so lucky to have been a part of it and to have worked once again at a venue I hold so dear.
